Hoop and Bunya Pine. Carved by Dr Frederick Crook-King (senior) between 1902 and 1906 for his home at 100 Margaret Street, Toowoomba.
The good doctor was born in London and in the late 1800's moved to Christchurch in New Zealand then later to Sydney.
In 1902 he moved once again, this time to Toowoomba where he resided in a magnificent home in which he fittingly installed this fabulous fireplace, patiently crafted by himself in a style and quality worthy of his other opulent surroundings.
Accompanying the fireplace are a pair of matching chairs also carved by Dr Frederick Crook King around the same period. Most of the other furniture in the house was carved by him as well in the same style.
